2 Weeks in Patagonia
Visit one of the most famous natural sceneries in South America
When traveling to Patagonia, specifically Torres del Paine National Park, you have four options for the airport.
Puerto Natales (PNT)
El Calafate (FTE)
Punta Arenas (PUQ)
Ushuaia (USH)
Typically, the cheapest airport to fly into is Punta Arenas (PUQ); however, it is the second farthest. Puerto Natales (PNT) and El Calafate (FTE) are closer. El Calafate is on the Argentinian side. I would recommend flying into Puerto Natales (PNT). Puerto Natales is only 90 cheaper than El Calafate (FTE), only 90 minutes from Torres del Paine National Park, and a day’s drive from sites around El Calafate. Ushuaia (USH) is the farthest option and on the Argentinian side. If you decide to fly into Ushuaia (USH), be sure to allocate a day or two extra for driving.
For these reasons, I would recommend flying into Puerto Natales (PNT).
Where and what is Patagonia?
Patagonia is the name given to the land at the southern tip of South America. It covers the entire southern portion of Chile and Argentina. This area has various landscapes. The largest landscape in Patagonia is the desert, but the most popular portions are the tall mountains, glaciers, and blue lakes.
What to do in Patagonia?
Patagonia is known for its outdoor adventures. Most people visit Patagonia to hike or rock climb. Pretty much any outdoor activity you would want to do, Patagonia will be able to accomodate.
When to visit Patagonia?
The best time to visit Patagonia is in their summer months. This ranges from November to March. Summer is the season with the most activities available. You could visit in the winter, however many more activities may be unavailable since it would be the off-season for tourism.
